Due to variation in altitude, aspect and soil, a diversity of vegetation is discernible in the protected area. The vegetation of the Overa-Aru Wildlife Sanctuary is mainly Fir (Abis pindrow) with Kail (Pinus griffithi) in the lower elevations near Nallas. On varied physical variations the following forest types found are as:

Deodar: These occur on pure or in mixed form on well drained soils. Parrotiopsis jacquemontiana or Viburnum grandiflorum are generally the associated understory forms. In the park, these forests are encountered in all the three sanctuaries and layer often form the lowest layer of the conifers.
Blue Pine (Kail): Found generally above 2000-2400 m, they may be found towards the higher elevations, intermixed with fir (Abies pindrow) and at lower altitudes with deodar (Cedrus deodara). Kail also tends to establish where conditions become unfavourable for other moisture loving species due to excessive biotic interference (Zadoo, 1980).
Silver Fir: The dominant species is Abies pindrow and generally occur in the altitude of 2400-3200 m and may occur in almost pure belts or sometimes with a sprinkling of spruce (Picea smithiana). At lower altitudes, Kail and deodar are found as its associates. Main broad leaved associates of fir are walnut, ash, maple, horse chestnut etc. Undergrowth is mainly Viburnum Skimmia laureolaSambucusebulusPhytolaca acinosaetc.

Chinar Stands: Patches of this majestic tree (Platanus orientalis) are found in both Limber and Lachipora areas close to human settlements. Being a protected tree of the state, these mainly add to the aesthetic value of the location apart from providing shaded areas in summers.
Walnut: Stands of walnut (Juglans regia) occur all over, in proximity to human habitations. Some walnut trees are also interspersed higher up with horse-chestnut (Aesculus indica) stands and away from settlements.
Horse Chestnut: The horse chestnut occurs in nearly pure patches and occasionally accompanied by Walnut in the low lying areas and base of the mountains and closer to streams.
Birch: Narrow patches of birch occur just below the alpine areas mostly in pure standsbutis sometimes mixed with fir, above 3200 m. It forms the main constituent of subalpine forest. The associated shrub species are Salix, Juniper and Lonicera.

This vegetation type also occurs above 3,100 m and is a transient zone between the lower forested area and the alpine meadows higher up. It thus consists of scrub, trees and meadows. Tree cover varies from 5-50%, and the main tree species include birch Betula utilis, fir Abies pindrow, and kail Pinus wallichiana. The relatively high ground cover (70%) is dominated by forbs (50%) with some monocot cover (20%). Dominant palatable herbs include Polygonatum, Geranium collinum, Jurinia dolomiae, Rumex nepalensis, Rheum spp., Hackelia uncinata, Pedicularis pyramidata, Potentilla argyrophilla, Euphorbia wallichii, Artemisia dubiaTanacetum longifolium,  grasses Juncus spp., Carex obscura, Dactylis glomerata and Phalaris speciosus. The shrub cover is high (22%) in this vegetation type and the dominant shrubs include Spiraea canescens, Rosa webbiana, Salix flabellaris, Lonicera spinosa, Lonicera myrtillus and Juniperus squamata. This vegetation type has the highest diversity. Sub-alpine vegetation type is dominated by rocky and broken terrain.

This vegetation type is at the highest altitude above 3,200 m and is dominated by alpine meadows and alpine scrub. This vegetation type is treeless but has high ground cover dominated by forbs with a fair amount of monocots. The shrub cover is relatively low. The monocots are dominated by Juncus spp., Carex obscura, Dactylis glomerata and Phalaris spp. Forbs are dominated by Tanacetum longifolium, Pedicularis pyramidata, Potentilla argyrophilla, Geranium collinum, Jurinea dolomiae, Rumex nepalensis, Rheumaustrale, Hackelia uncinata, Polygonatum spp., and the shrub layer is dominated by Juniperus squamata, Rosa webbiana, Salix flabellaris, Lonicera spinosa, and Lonicera myrtillus. This vegetation type consists of large meadows, interspeserd with rocky cliffs.

Parrotiopsis: A small but young patch ofParrotiopsis jacquemontiana occurs along the mountainous ridge near Limber village, which is sparsely mixed with clumps of Viburnum grandiflorum

Isodon Scrub: The Isodon rugosus scrub is pre-dominantly found on the eastern ridge extending below Limber village with individuals of Cedrus deodaraPinus griffithiParraptiopsis jacquemontiana and Viburnum continifolium, association along ridges and shady gentle slopes.

Savana Scrub: Tall unidentified coarse grasses dotted with Pinus griffithii support Indigofera heterantha and Rosa webbiana along exposed slopes, when shady gentle slopes bear Sorbaria tomentosa and stunt Salix alba associations.
